They say there’s not much point in looking back. But looking back at past Denbigh choir highlights of the year is very satisfying.
Historical Denbigh Choir Highlight
In January Denbigh celebrated the 200th anniversary of the birth of Thomas Gee, a printer and publisher. As part of the commemoration a service was also held in Capel Mawr in which the Denbigh Choral Society and Denbigh Male Voice Choir took part.
New Denbigh Choir Highlight
We were invited to be the guests of honour at the St David’s Day Eisteddfod at St David’s College, Llandudno. This year was very significant due to the college celebrating its 50th Anniversary.
Lincoln Trip Highlight
The Lincoln choir trip in April 2015, which included singing at a wedding and an evening concert, turned out to be a resounding success.
Wedding Highlights
As part of the Lincoln trip the choir took part in Donna and Rob’s wedding which took place at St John’s Church in Washingborough.
While St Berre’s Church at Llanferres was the perfect wedding location for Elisabeth and Patrick.
Another wedding took place in the ancient church of St Oswald’s which is the highest point of the small town of Malpas. On Saturday, 29th August 2015, this 15th century building was again the focal point for the wedding of Jess and Keri.
Joint Denbigh Choir Concert Highlights
There were no fewer than 3 Joint concerts with other Male Voice Choirs.
The St David’s Day concert stage was shared with Llangwm MVC at the Severn Theatre, Shrewsbury.
In June we were hosts to a weekend visit by the Avon and Somerset Constabulary MVC. The highlight being a joint concert held at St John’s Church, Llandudno.
Another joint concert took place at All Saint’s Church, Leek with the Wetley Rocks MVC. The continuing friendship and camaraderie of choral singing much in evidence.
Civic Highlights
It’s always a pleasure to receive invitations to sing at Civic Services. July 2015 provided two such opportunities.
The first was Raymond Bartley’s fifth Civic Service as Mayor of Denbigh, followed a week later by a Civic Service for Councillor Gwyneth Kensler, Chairman of Denbighshire County Council.
Unexpected Highlights
Radio Deeside has taken a special interest in our choir. Jan Doyle, presenter of Classical Cymru, came to one of our practice nights to interview choristers for her programme. Several of our CD tracks are featured on her programmes.
Also the choir recorded two musical items for the popular TV programme ‘Dechrau Canu Dechrau Canu.’
Gala Concert Highlight
Most noteworthy highlight of our concert year was our ‘Gala Concert’ which took place at St Mary’s Church Denbigh in November.
Our special guests Sioned Terry, mezzo soprano, Eilir Edwards, Tenor and Glian Llwyd, accompanist made it another night to remember.
As a result, it’s a Year to Remember!
In conclusion, The Denbigh and District Male Voice Choir wish you a Happy New Year !
