No matter how well you plan an outdoor event, such as a Strawberry Tea. The one most important element is beyond control – the weather!
So it was on Saturday 1st August, 2015 for the choir fundraiser. A Strawberry Tea at Gwaenynog, Denbigh. By kind invitation of choir member Peter Davies and wife Enys.
Rain in the morning gave way to an annoying fine drizzle just before the event was due to start. But the drizzle cleared and gave way to some welcome sunshine for most of the afternoon.
Strawberry Tea Time
Upon entering Peter & Enys’ welcoming home at Gwaenynog it was clear that a real treat was in store.
Enough strawberries, meringues and cream for a summer’s afternoon strawberry tea at Wimbledon.
…… and it looked as if the Pimms came by the gallon!
The dining room was also resplendent. A wonderful mouth-watering array of cakes and sweet treats on offer. It was clear that this was not going to be an afternoon for strict ‘calorie counters’.
A chance to relax and enjoy the occasion
Early arrivals settled down. Then they started to demolish the vast amount of food.
The Eton Mess was superb as everybody can see.
There was an opportunity to exchange stories. I think some stories were a little taller than others though.
A visit to Beatrix Potter’s Garden
A Strawberry Tea at Gwaenynog should finish with a visit to the idyllic Beatrix Potter’s garden.
As the sun shone later in the afternoon, it received a steady stream of visitors.
The decorative garden has a lot to admire. Plenty of flowers, shrubs, fruit and vegetable plants. Then you arrive at the Beatrix Potter corner. A statuette of the author and carvings of her characters are in prime position.
The visit is an opportunity to look back in time and remember reading the Beatrix Potter stories.
Beatrix Potter drew inspiration for her drawings from her visit to the garden. You could see just why that was the case. It was just the perfect place to relax.
The extract from one of her diaries about her visit to Gwaenynog summed it up perfectly.
A very big thank you
The Strawberry Tea was a relaxed social get together. It was also a successful fundraiser. The choir’s funds raised by over £370.
We would all like to say a big thank you to Peter & Enys. For their kind and generous invitation to hold this event at their home. Also for the warm welcome they extended to everyone attending.
Our thanks also go to the organising team. And everyone else who helped in any way to make the Strawberry Tea such a success.
Your efforts are much appreciated.
