On a Sunday afternoon with showers threatening, the stage is set for a choir fund raising event. And Gron’s Garden Shed Grand Opening.
Clearly, so much advance work took place before the arrival of the guests. Gazebo’s erected. Outside seating in abundance. Not forgetting, of course, the erection of Gron’s Garden Shed.
In addition, a wonderful array of sandwiches, cakes and other goodies to tempt one and all.
Choir Fund Raiser
First of all, Choir treasurer Gron Wynne, and wife Brenda, had an idea. To open their home to raise funds for the Denbigh and District Male Voice Choir.
Choir members, families and friends support the event in many ways. Either bringing food. Buying admission tickets. Donating raffle prizes and buying raffle tickets.
Or all of the above. Gron is the grand master of recycling money.
Now an auction of slate mounted decorative clocks. Made by the talented hands of choir member Gwyn Williams. After a hesitant start auctioneer Gron secures the ‘reserve price.’
Consequently, I think of the song ‘And the Money Kept Rolling In’ from the stage show ‘Evita.’
Gron’s Garden Shed Grand Opening
Permit me a slight digression at this point. Creative people need their creative space.
Roald Dahl had his writing garden shed. Dylan Thomas his Boathouse in Laugharne.
Gron is an accomplished artist. He now possesses a ‘creative shed.’
Of course, the design and construction of Gron’s Garden Shed is, you’ve guessed it, by Gron. This veritable haven is to be the scene of Gron’s future masterpieces.
Especially relevant, the official ‘Garden Shed Grand Opening’ is performed by Medwyn Jones, recently retired Denbigh Town Clerk. A master at cutting through red tape.
Furthermore, the delicious food is still plentiful. Tempting enough to warrant repeat visits.
To summarise, satisfied winners claim all the raffle prizes. Above all else, it was time to thank Gron for all his organisation.
Thanks also to the Kitchen Team, the Garden Team and all who turn out to a pleasant and worthwhile event.
In conclusion, we await the amount raised by Gron and Brenda but feel sure that all their endeavours will be worthwhile.

Thanks Richard
It’s amazing how a silly conversation ends up in a successful event.
Brenda and I would like to thank everyone for their extremely generous support, especially the ladies ( or was it men?) who provided the wonderful fare and as you say the members and visitors who help out in so many ways.
We enjoyed it – hope you did too.

Thanks for your comments. It was a most enjoyable afternoon. So good to be able to socialise with choir members and friends. You both made it look effortless but that’s down to planning and preparation.

A truly super event and very happy afternoon. Thanks for the thoughtfully, well placed, gazebo which enabled some of us to recover from the steep ascent before moving on to tackle wonderful array of food.
Not realizing, at the time, that Roger was bidding, I am so thrilled that Gwyn’s slate clock now graces our mantelpiece. We are especially chuffed that the clock bears the inscription Côr Meibion Dinbych. (Afraid you missed out there Arwyn!)
Great to see everyone & many thanks to Gron, Brenda & their team. Meg.

Thanks for your response Meg. I wonder if Gwyn has programmed the clock to chime at 7:30 on a Tuesday practice night?
