It’s that time of year for our choir. When musical director, Arwyn Roberts, hands out song sheets for us to learn new songs to add to our repertoire.

New Songs About Nostalgia
An American Trilogy
“An American Trilogy” is a song by country songwriter Mickey Newbury and made popular by Elvis Presley.
It’s a medley of three 19th century songs. “Dixie”, “All My Trials”, and “The Battle Hymn of the Republic”, the marching song of the Union Army during the Civil War.
Alwyn Humphreys’ arrangement for male choirs is very popular. It features on an album by Morriston Orpheus Choir.
It’s estimated that over 465 versions of “An American Trilogy” are recorded by different artists.
Take Me Home
An evocative song by Edwards and Hand about mining life. It describes a son’s decision to leave home and not follow his father’s footsteps to go down the mines.
But the thoughts of family, friends and singing reveals a poignancy to the phrase ‘Take Me Home’.
New Songs of Love
The lullaby “Fy Mhlentyn” is by Aled Wyn Edwards. Published following its success in the televised S4C Côr Cymru competition.
In 2015 it appeared in the 1000 voices programme performed at the Albert Hall in London.
To close a beautiful arrangement by Eric Jones of a traditional Welsh lullaby. A doting parent deems that a baby is a thousand times more beautiful when compared to any of nature’s delights.
In summary, why don’t you come along to any of our concerts and hear some of these wonderful new songs and arrangements for our choir.
