It is often said that hard work and dedication will be rewarded in heaven. For one Denbigh & District Male Voice Choir chorister the reward will come a lot sooner….. not in heaven but in the halfway house of St. Asaph Cathedral.
A taster choir practice
In early February 2026, Alan Parry of Ruthin Road, Denbigh decided to attend one of our weekly practices as a ‘taster’ to see whether being a member of the choir was for him.
Following a simple voice test he was put in the 1st Tenor section and took part in his first practice. Having enjoyed it so much he returned the following week (thankfully) and has continued to return ever since.
Hard work required for success
It takes a lot of hard work for a choir member to become a chorister taking part in concerts. Music has to be learned. Words of songs committed to memory. A lot to learn but in a very enjoyable way. Humour, camerarderie and mutual support are, and always have been, the signature tune of Denbigh & District Male Voice Choir.
Using the choir’s training and support tools Alan spent many hours practicing and learning the choir’s current concert songs at home. Moreover, his hard work did not go unnoticed.
Congratulations and recognition
In a little over two months since attending his first ‘taster’ choir practice, Alan was deemed to have learnt our concert pieces to a sufficiently high standard that he was now ready to perform in the choir at our concerts and other engagements.
At our choir practice on Tuesday 14th April 2026, Sam Pritchard, our extremely talented MD and Accompanist, presented Alan with his choir tie confirming the fact that he now has a uniform and is a fully fledged ‘concert ready’ chorister.

Vice-Chairman, Paul Harrison, congratulated Alan and thanked him for all his hard work and dedication in achieving the status of full chorister in such a short space of time.
Concert debut
Alan doesn’t have to wait long to wait for his concert debut. He will be part of the choir performing at our Daffodil Celebration Concert this Saturday, 18th April 2026. Talk about being thrown in the deep end!

The concert is at St Asaph Cathedral, a fantastic venue to perform in but can be a little daunting.

St Asaph Cathedral
Break A Leg Alan (not literally)
Congratulations on becoming a chorister of Denbigh & District Male Voice Choir and good luck for your debut performance on Saturday! We hope that you will enjoy performing with the choir for many years to come.
Join us at the concert
There are still tickets available for the concert so why not purchase one now. Details of how to buy tickets are on the poster above. The concert is in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care and by buying a ticket you will assist them in raising much needed funds. We all hope to see you there.
