Denbigh Choir May Newsletter includes another night of Sankey Moody community hymn singing, as well as news of a forthcoming concert in Abergele in aid of the National Eisteddfod. Oh, and there’s reference to a Royal Wedding.
Sankey Moody Evening
Another Sankey Moody evening has become a regular annual feature at St Thomas’ Church, Denbigh.
The pairing of the evangelical duo Ira David Sankey and Dwight Lyman Moody compiled a 1877 hymn collection which remains popular.
The evening also coincides with Christian Aid week for which there is a collection.
The Rev. Nesta Davies led the congregational singing in her inimitable and energetic style.
Furthermore, our choir sang six items, three of which, Do You Hear the People Sing, Dal Fi fy Nuw, and Amazing Grace, were performed in public for the first time.
Moreover, visitors from Germany, Budapest and the Philippines provided an international awareness of world wide issues.
The Rev. Gareth Roberts proposed a vote of thanks and gave his blessing on the evening.
Prince Charles 70th Birthday Garden Party Celebrations.
Prince Charles celebrated his 70th birthday early by holding a Garden Party at Buckingham Palace on May 22.
The event turned out also to be the first public engagement for the newlywed Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Caldicot Male Voice Choir will not forget the day in a hurry.
Lyn Gauntlett, spokesperson for the choir, said: “We will be delighted and honoured as the only Welsh choir present on the day to sing for them.
“More than sixty choristers will be singing a mixture of famous Welsh songs and hymns for about thirty minutes on the garden steps of Buckingham Palace.”
Concert in Aid of National Eisteddfod
Our choir has agreed to take part in a fund raising concert for the National Eisteddfod of Wales. The event is a fund raiser for the Llanrwst Eisteddfod in 2019.
Our concert will take place at Mynydd Seion Chapel, Abergele, on July 5 with popular soloist Sioned Terry and the Beulah Brass Band.
More details of this concert will also be available on the choir CONCERT page.
In conclusion, the Denbigh Choir May Newsletter wishes you a pleasant forthcoming Bank Holiday.
Best wishes from us all at Denbigh and District Male Voice Choir.
